Copper Manufacturing

Sectors Taxonomy

Primary smelting and electrolytic refining of copper from concentrate, secondary smelting of scrap, and the rolling, drawing, extruding and alloying of copper from purchased metal. Sulphide smelting is largely autogenous — oxidation of the charge supplies most of the process heat — so the sector’s direct emissions are led not by process CO2 but by fuel fired in anode and refining furnaces.
