Methanol Production
Process CO2 from making methanol via synthesis gas. Conventional plants reform natural gas (or gasify coal) to syngas and catalytically convert it to methanol; the feedstock carbon that does not end up in the product leaves as process CO2, and the reformer is fired on top of that. Coal-based routes, dominant in China, emit several times the gas-based figure. Bio-methanol and e-methanol have no fossil process stream — their footprint is the feedstock and the electricity, which is why the low-carbon routes live on the instrument rather than here.
