Fertilizer Application
N2O released from soil when manufactured nitrogen fertilizer is applied — directly through nitrification and denitrification of the added N, and indirectly through the fraction that volatilises or leaches and is converted downstream — together with the CO2 released when urea hydrolyses in the soil. Reported by the farm, not by the plant that made the product, and abated by nitrification inhibitors, coated products and rate and timing management rather than by anything done in manufacturing.
